Shipping Policy

I always quarantine newly purchased Bettas for 24 hours before they are sent out. They are not fed in that 24 hours so that they do not produce waste in the bag that they are sent in. Before packing I produce a mix of water which is 25% of their water and 75% fresh water. To this I add bag buddy tablets and a small piece of Almond leaf mix. The water is added to bags and the fish are then added to the bag. Each bag is then double bagged and taped up for protection before being wrapped in newspaper for insulation. It is then placed in a polystyrene lined box which is wrapped with FRAGILE tape. I then have a printed label on the box which informs the post office of the contents of the box so that they hopefully will take extra care. I will not send unhealthy fish and therefore your betta should easily be able to cope with the stress of shipping. My new Doa policy gives you complete piece of mind by providing you not only with a replacement betta, I will also bear the cost of postage as well providing you choose another fish. This is the most comprehensive DOA policy around. However you must follow the procedure laid out below if you do not then the policy will be null and void.

Doa fish must be left in the bag and a photograph supplied within 2 hours of the time that you signed for the parcel. I require a simple text saying that your Betta has arrived DOA ( do not send lengthy texts about how upset you are etc etc.) You then need to provide evidence by photograph of the betta dead in the bag. The photos should be sent by e-mail to steve@bettasplendens.co.uk do not send them by phone as they often dont come through properly. Once I have your e-mail then i will reply and you can choose an alternative Betta. I will supply another Betta free of charge. If you require a refund then I will refund the cost of the fish , I will not refund the cost of the postage. If you leave someone else to take delivery of your Betta Tthen you must ensure that they have the equipment needed to provide the evidence of DOA and the know how to sedn the evidence to me.

You must be available to take delivery of the parcel, it is a gauranteed signed for service so they will not leave the parcel with someone else. If royal mail are unable to get an answer and the subsequently take the parcel back for delivery the next day then the DOA policy will be void. I strongly advise that you copy and paste the text below and print it on an A4 sheet to stick on your front door.

ROYAL MAIL. I am expecting a delivery of live fish, if you do not receive a reply please knock or ring again. I can be reached on Tel no................... i will pay for your call if you cannot get an answer. Please note; if the fish are returned to your depot for redelivery they will probabably die so your cooperation would be much apreciated. Thank you

Having used Royal mail now for over year for delivering my Bettas and having sent out over 100 boxes of fish, i can report that i have had only 1 delivery that wasnt delivered on time. If you havnt recieved your Betta by 1pm it is likely that you have missed the postman knocking on the door. If this happens you will need to contact the depot immeadiatley to arrange collection from your local depot after the postman returns to the depot. When dealing with Royal mail remind them that the fish will possibly die overnight and this may help them in locating your parcel and securing it for you to collect that day. Please do not text me as it is highly likely that I will be at work and will be unable to help until i get

Bettas are notorious for biting their tails when being shipped. If this happens you should place the betta in a tank with some tonic salt and add an Indian Almond leaf. The fins will grow back providing you ensure good water quality. Unfortunatly there is nothing i can do if your betta has damaged its fins whilst in transit. If your Betta is unwell once you have settled him into the tank please let me know and i will try to help you i have a vast experience where Bettas are concerned and turning to Forums, where you are likely to get differing solutions is not the answer. if i cannot help you then i will pose your question to members of the IBc who may be able to help.

Live food Policy

I offer several live foods however, these are not always available so please ensure that I have them in stock before ordering. You can buy any old Almond leaves on ebay etc, but the ones that I buy are top quality A grade. They may be slightly dearer but they are superior to many of the leaves that you can buy.

DVD's

My love of filming bettas started back in tthe 90's, when I began to film footage for my first video which was about breeding Oscars. At the time I started to breed Bettas as well and enjoyed flming them. Later I used foootge that I shot to make the Betta film. I then shot more film for my Oscar dvd's which I now have two of. One is about breeding Oscars the other is a keeping Oscars dvd. My latest release is an Angel fish care and breeding dvd which is shot in high definition
