Microworms are the number one food for your Bettas. They can be fed as soonn as they are free swimming and can be easily cultured form a cheap starter batch. Once you have established a batch of microworm you can use them again and again by just starting a new culture before the old one dies off.
Once you have purchased your culture you simply mix up some porrideg oats or ready brek and place it in a shallow plastic tray with a lid. make sure there are some holes in the lid after a few days the surface of te porridge will be teaming with the tiny worms and they will begin to migrate uo theside of the container. I use a cotton bud to collect hem and then put them straight in the tank.
There are a few advantages that microworm have over brine shrimp. Microworms do not cause swimbladder disease, they are cheaper and easier to cultivate. They will stay alive in the tank for a lot longer and most importantly they re the perfect size for the newly free swimming fry.Wheras shrimp move around the tank forcing the shrimp to chase them microworms will fall to the bottom of the tank and remain there.
Once you have a culture of microworms you can take a spoonfull and start nother culture. The culture will last aproximately 6 weeks.
