Female
bettas were once drab red or blue in colour unable to catch the imagination
of the aquaris,t but now we have as many different colour forms for females
as we do for males. With the advent of the different fin types females also
have diferent finnage, although they lack the long flowing fins of their male
counterparts. Females on the other hand have the advantage that they can be
kept in groups without to many problems. This means you can have a whole tankfull
of females to match up with your males. To keep them in condition I feed a varied
diet to my females including frozen blood worm, white worm, daphnia chopped
earthworms and any mosquito larvae i can find in the garden. This diet will
keep them in tip top condition and ready for spawning. After a female has spawned
i like to keep them seperate from the others for a few days for them to build
up their energy. I normally keep them in 6 litre plastic milk bottles just for
a few days until they are ready to go back in with the other females.
